New York Power Authority Gas Turbine Generating Station

Visit one of the seven New York Power Authority's Gas Turbine sites which was a major initiative to install prior to the summer of 2001. Each installation is connected to major transmission facilities throughout New York City and Long Island. The gas turbine generators, each capable of generating 44 MW of electricity, are rated the most fuel efficient simple cycle natural GT generators in the world. Where two units are located on one site, power output is limited to the air permit requirements of 79.9 MW. Using the best environmental control technology available, these units are considered the cleanest generators in New York City.

This comprehensive tour will be highlighted with inspections of the gas turbine generator, and power equipment, as well as the protection and control instrumentation required for the safe and efficient operation of the facility.

For safety reasons, NYPA requests that everyone taking the tour wear comfortable shoes (no heels, sneakers, or sandals). Safety hats and ear protection will be provided to all.
